The Old Granary – Self Catering

The Old Granary provides accommodation for up to 8 guests and comes with all the amenities and comforts for either a long or short stay.

The Old Granary

This lovely three bedroom converted Old Granary sits in a tranquil setting on the edge of The Ashdown Forest, which can be accessed on foot from the Weald Way public footpath which runs through Hendall Manor Farm.

The Old Granary is highly unusual and has beautiful old beams, mullion windows with ancient, exposed brick and stone walls. Predominantly medieval in origin this very special building faces south over Hendall Manor’s beautiful walled garden and fields to the north.

What The Interior Space Offers

Our spacious converted Old Granary has a charming double with a king size bed on the ground floor. This room has two exposed sandstone walls and has the benefit of an adjacent shower room and a separate cloakroom with a traditional high cistern WC. Upstairs, the second of the double bedrooms is light and very spacious with a super king size bed and its own en-suite bathroom. The third bedroom has three single beds and a single day bed. It too has its own en-suite bathroom; this room works perfectly for children.

The part vaulted first floor sitting room has a wall mounted internet enabled TV with board games and magazines. As well as a well-equipped kitchen and dining/breakfast room, there is also a snooker/pool table in one room and table tennis in the adjoining studio room – the latter being an appropriate space to dump wellies and coats. Guests also have shared use (by arrangement) of our private outdoor Swimming Pool during the summer months and a private Tennis Court (rackets and balls are not included).

The Great Outdoors

The Old Granary has ample parking for several cars in two designated parking spaces directly next to the accommodation. Step outside the back door from the dining area and you have a patio/seating area looking out to the fields beyond. There are handrails on our steps leading down to the accommodation from the patio area and we have motion activated lighting around the entire property.  We usually permit up to two dogs to stay and the accommodation is available to book, for a minimum two-night stay.

As well as sitting alongside Ashdown Forest, Hendall Manor Farm has direct access to the Weald Way public footpath and there are lots of great walks in the area.  For those interested in all things Winnie-the-Pooh, we are pleased to recommend bespoke  Pooh Trek Tours – an opportunity to discover the world of AA Milne and The Ashdown Forest. There are of course local cycling routes including the Forest Way to and from Hartfield which incorporates a disused railway line. The nearby towns of Lewes and Royal Tunbridge Wells offer interesting days out. The local town of Uckfield has a fantastic Picture House for those who fancy a trip to the cinema. In addition to Brighton and The South Downs there are historic houses such as Chartwell (Winston Churchill), Standen and Rudyard Kipling’s Batemans – all within a reasonable drive.

Your Self Catering Experience

The Old Granary has a recently converted well equipped kitchen, with ample fridge and freezer space for both long and short stays. We have many local supermarkets that will also deliver if necessary, including a new M&S food hall in Maresfield and both Waitrose and Tescos in the nearby town of Uckfield. We have a Nespresso machine for all the coffee lovers, and we also provide towels & linen for the duration of your stay.

Testimonials

  • An absolutely beautiful and amazing barn.

What an absolutely beautiful and amazing barn. Myself and friends had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would recommend. The weather was great, the pool was pure tranquility and the whole estate was absolutely stunning. We could have stayed for a lot longer and I plan on returning with my family next year!
Thanks Nicola and family for opening up your estate/barn to us and giving us a very warm welcome.
If I could rate it more than five stars I would.

  • Beautiful and big with lots of things to keep you entertained!

Stayed here with three couples and three babies. The place is beautiful and big with lots of things to keep you entertained in the house – we particularly enjoyed the table tennis and pool tables! Nicola was an incredibly helpful host with good recommendations for local pubs with great food (would definitely recommend The Hurstwood pub).
Would come back to stay again!
